I'll bet your thrilled beyond belief.
When we got to the field, we all got a quick lesson on cotton from Uncle Brian. My mom and her siblings grew up in a farming town with a farming dad. They told lots of stories about picking cotton by hand as a kid. Uncle Brian even farmed for a while after college and he was right at home out in this field with the kids. My mom and Aunt Kay were just as giddy to be out among the cotton plants...it's in the blood.

Here's an up-close look at a live cotton plant. The buds turn into flowers which later turn into bolls.

Those green round things are bolls. I don't know what that means but that's what they are. When the boll opens up, there's cotton inside like you see here. Once the bolls have all opened up, the farmer actually sprays the field to kill the plants in order to make harvesting easier. They don't want any leaves in their cotton bales. This plant is still alive though.

This field that Jackson's in was across the street from the live field. It's been sprayed so all the plants are dead and ready for harvesting.
